Northspan Explorations Ltd. is a contract drilling company based in Kelowna, British Columbia. We specialize in exploration drilling using our light-weight reverse circulation drills. We drill for both major and junior mining companies in diverse environments across Canada. Our aim is to provide our clients with a high-quality product in a safe and sustainable manner.

We are currently looking for samplers for the start of our 2017 field season at the Coffee Project in the Yukon. The sampler reports to the driller and is an important part of the 3-person drill crew. The sampler works in concert with the rest of the drill crew and is responsible for the quality and integrity of the rock chip sample once it is brought to surface by the drill. Training for the position will be provided on the job. The sampler is an entry-level position with advancement opportunities in the drilling industry for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

-Ensure availability of sampling consumables at the drill site (buckets, bags, chiptrays, etc.)

-Split, bag, mark samples for every 5 ft of drilling

-Keep the sampling area well organized to avoid any mislabeling or contamination of samples

-Prepare rock chip trays for geological examination

-Be knowledgeable of and follow workplace regulations, procedures and policies

-Assist drill geologist with duplicate sampling and down-hole surveys

-Assist driller and helper as required, particularly with regard to drill moves

Knowledge and skills

-Good work ethic and good communication skills

-Well organized and able to follow detailed sampling protocols

-Positive work attitude

-Willingness to be clean-shaven and intermittently wear a fitted respirator

-Ability to work outdoors in all conditions

-Able to work 12 hr shifts, day or night

-Physically fit and able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly

-Able to work in remote dry camps for several weeks at a time

-Crews normally work every day for four weeks, then go home for a two week break

-Health and safety priority mindset

-Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record

-Ability to operate 4WD pickup trucks and ATVs in off-road conditions

-Valid First Aid Certificate

-Consent to pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
